Our Club

Our Club was chartered in July 1986, to meet the need of providing a breakfast club in the Ottawa - Bytown area.

We meet every Tueday, at 7:15 am for breakfast at Palisades Retirement Home

We are part of District 7040, which includes parts of Ontario and Quebec

Our Goals

Our Club's Goals are to provide support for the community. This is accomplished through various fundraising projects that have ranged from beer gardens, to selling Entertainment Books. This provides the majority of funds for the community organizations and projects.

Presidents Message

As I look back at my 2008 presidency it fills me with joy at what we were able to accomplish even though we are one of the smallest clubs in the Ottawa area. I therefore feel honoured and privileged to be asked serve as President for one more year. Rotary Clubs are among the leading service clubs in the city of Ottawa.

The Ottawa Bytown Rotary Club was founded 24 years ago and has served both Ottawa and the International Community throughout those years. Our efforts have helped to complete the “Playground for All Abilities”, located in Brewer Park Ottawa South a new playground and water park facility for families with children and young adults with physical and mental disabilities. This facility was started in 2006 as Ottawa’s Rotary Centennial Project and opened in 2008 with the support of the Ottawa area Rotary Clubs. We are very proud of our many local community service projects such as: Life Skills, which provides group homes for mentally and physically Challenged Adults in the Ottawa area; the ABC of Fraud Program, which helps alert seniors to, the possibility of fraud committed against them; Camp Quality, a summer camp for children diagnosed with cancer, for which we have prepared the closing BBQ luncheon for the campers for the past nine years.

Internationally, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the World Health Organization have teamed up with Rotary in its efforts to eradicate Polio throughout the world. They have challenged Rotary to match $ 200,000,000. Our club has donated $ 2000.00 per year towards this effort.

We worked with the new Kingston Rotary Club of Jamaica on a Foundation matching grant for incubators in the University Hospital of the West Indies. Through matching grant funding we manage to raise $25,790, which provided 2 inhalators for Neonatal Intensive Care Unit; we also worked with the Peruvian Community in Ottawa to provide relief to earthquake victims.

Our membership represents a broad cross section of today’s business and professional leaders. All indicators suggest that people join our club for a variety of different reasons; friendship, fun, personal development, business contacts, or to learn from the informative speakers at our meetings. However, the majority have joined for the opportunity to give back to the community through personal participation.

If you are looking at getting involved in your community and would like to be part of a leading service club, please contact us by email or telephone…613 859 5971.
